WE NEED CLEAR CHAIN OF COMMAND FOR NAIMOS AT DISTRICT LEVEL - ASHANTI REGIONAL MINISTER

The Ashanti Regional Minister, Hon. Dr. Frank Amoakohene, has called for a clear chain of command on who members of the *National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS)* should fall under in the various Metropolitan, Municipal and District Assemblies (MMDAs) in line with their duties in the fight against illegal mining.

According to the Minister, there is the need for proper coordination and clarity to ensure that NAIMOS activities do not conflict with the mandate of District Chief Executives, security agencies, and other local stakeholders involved in the fight against galamsey.

Dr. Frank Amoakohene said this has become necessary to avoid confusion and ensure effective collaboration in the fight against illegal mining, which continues to destroy water bodies and forest reserves in the Ashanti Region.

He noted that while government remains committed to clamping down on illegal mining, the operations of NAIMOS must be streamlined and well-coordinated at the local level to achieve the desired results.

The Regional Minister made the call during a meeting with MMDCEs and heads of security agencies in Kumasi at the *National Conference for MMDCEs on Illegal Small Scale Mining* organized by the Ministry of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs.

He emphasized that with a clear reporting line and chain of command, NAIMOS will be more effective and accountable in its operations.

Hon. Dr. Amoakohene reaffirmed the Regional Coordinating Council’s commitment to support all efforts aimed at ending illegal mining activities in the region.
