Former Provost of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), *Prof. Charles Marfo*, has made a shocking claim regarding the alleged poisoning plot against the Ashanti Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), *Chairman Wontumi*.
According to Prof. Marfo, the alleged poisoning story is a well-calculated set-up aimed at preparing the minds of Ghanaians for Wontumi’s possible release from prison by December.
In a statement published by The Ghana News Stand on *30th October 2026*, Prof. Marfo alleged:
_”The alleged poisoning plot against Wontumi is a set-up to prepare the minds of Ghanaians for his release by December. The narrative of a threat to his life could be used to justify his release from prison.”_
Prof. Charles Marfo’s comment comes at a time when news about the health and safety of Chairman Wontumi, who is currently facing legal issues, has dominated public discourse, with some of his supporters claiming that there is a plot to poison him.
Prof. Marfo, however, believes the narrative is being deliberately pushed to create public sympathy and to lay the groundwork for a possible release on health or security grounds before the end of the year.
His statement has since sparked mixed reactions on social media, with some agreeing with him while others describe it as insensitive.
