Protest Looms at GRIDCo Over Proposed Appointment of NPP Sympathizer as CEO

Tensions are running high at the Ghana Grid Company (GRIDCo) as National Democratic Congress (NDC) supporters and staff members strongly oppose the proposed appointment of Ing. Mark Baah, a known New Patriotic Party (NPP) sympathizer, as the company’s Ag. Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

Mr. Baah’s initial appointment as CEO in 2021 was revoked due to internal NPP competition, but he’s now being considered for the top spot again under the NDC era, just three months shy of retirement. Why should it be the responsibility of NDC to make an NPP sympathizer happy for something that was inflicted on him by his own Party. This move has sparked concerns among GRIDCo staff and some NDC sympathizers, who argue that there are qualified NDC-aligned candidates that should be considered for the position.
Critics point to an NDC bigwig who’s allegedly using his influence to push Mr. Baah’s appointment, despite being an NPP sympathizer. The motives of the NDC bigwig are being questioned, with some suggesting he’s prioritizing shared business interests over Party loyalty.
The staff are hopeful that the leadership of the NDC party will heed their calls for the proposed appointment to be reconsidered. Staff have expressed their dissatisfaction with that intension, emphasizing that the energy sector should not be exposed to possible sabotage, that could bring back Dumsor to make our great Party unpopular again, by appointing someone with strong NPP ties.
