Flames engulfed the Afful Nkwanta community in Kumasi’s Dagomba Line early Monday morning, leaving a trail of destruction.

The fire, which broke out around 4:15 am on April 6, 2026, ravaged approximately 226 structures, displacing hundreds.
“It was like chaos, people running helly, some half-naked, trying to save what they could,” said an eyewitness. Firefighters from KNUST and KMA rushed to the scene, battling the blaze for over two hours before bringing it under control at 6:55 am.
The aftermath is dire: 644 people affected, including 356 men, 150 women, 60 boys, and 78 girls. “We need water, food, and shelter,” pleaded a community leader. As investigations into the cause continue, residents are left wondering what sparked the inferno. 💔
