Ghanaian Journalist, Yussif Abdul Ganiyu receives death threats for discussion probity and accountability on Ashanti Zongo Palace building

March 8, 2024, – Alhaji Yussif Abdul Ganiyu , a Ghanaian Journalist and regional reporter for Deuch Welle (DW) a German Government Own Media and General Manager for Zuria FM , has received numerous death threats for discussing probity and accountability of Ashanti Zongo Palace in the Ashanti Region.

The death threats which comes in the form of audio voices and phone calls warning him to desist from hosting public discussions on the said matter on his popular morning show on Zuria FM “Zongo Mai Ya Yi “.

Zuria fm is a local based radio station and the most listened Hausa media in the Ashanti Region.

Threat messages and audio’s available to the press indicated that, an alleged group of people calling themselves “Hausa First” on their WhatsApp platforms outlined plans to attack “Mr Yussif Abdul Ganiyu ” in subsequent days .

The alleged group is said to have been terrorizing the life of the senior journalist for sometime now and all efforts made to trace them proved futile.
Mr Yussif Abdul Ganiyu is known for his fight against the use of illicit drugs in the Zongo Community.

Mr Yussif said, he believed the threats are linked to his recent pronouncements on the probity and accountability on Zongo Palace building which implicated some key members of the group.

According to Mr Yussif, he started receiving distress calls, audio voices and messages as far back in January 2023, from known and unknown individuals and based on expert advice, he has taken some personal precautions to protect himself and his family.

Most recently, journalists have faced a spate of violent attacks throughout the country, many from major political party supporters and groups.

In many ways, Ghana has been a pillar of press freedom on the African continent while most countries in the region have struggled with an independent and viable press.

He has since reported the incidence to the Ashanti Regional police command in the case of any eventualities.

He has also called on international bodies who advocate for journalists freedom and right to look into the matter to ensure the traitors were apprehended.

Efforts made to trace the group leaders for their side of the story proved futile.
