Manhyia North Marks Maiden Independence Day

The Chiefs and people of Manhyia North on Wednesday morning joined its Member of Parliament (MP) to commemorate its version of Ghana’s 67th Independence Day

Anniversary parade at Buokrom school, a suburb of Manhyia North.

In all 25 private and public schools, supported by two senior high school.

Under the theme, is “OUR Democracy, OUR PRIDE”,

The event was marked with cultural displays and poetic recitals by the school children whose peers came in their numbers to witness the colourful ceremony which was also graced by traditional leaders and security services top guns within the constituency.

Addressing the gathering, Hon Akwasi Konadu, the Member of Parliament for Manhyia North and Deputy minister designate (Lands and Natural Resources); said it was a joyous occasion since it was the first to be organised by the constituency.

The MP said as a country, Ghana had come away with a lot to be proud of as people, in spite of the few challenges and constraints.

Hon Konadu said under the current the government the country had made gains with the introduction of the Free Senior High School,

He noted it was also a day to reflect on how they got to their current stage as a country as they fashion out plans of getting out of every challenge that stands on their way to development.

Hon Akwasi Konadu said the Independence Day gives Ghanaians the opportunity to remind themselves of their heritage as they strive to honor the legacy of freedom and sacrifices of their ancestors.

He urged the public to consciously recall elements which have made Ghana and its people unique and thereby embrace those values.

‘’It is important that as a people we strive to live in unity at all times and not to be divided by nepotism or any trait that has the tendency to divide us since it is clear that united we stand but divided we fall as a people’’, Akwasi Konadu urged.

Speaking to media Madam Marcy Achiaa Boahen, the Circuit Supervisor for Buokrum expressed delight at participating in the maiden independence day celebration in their own constituency.

She commended the Member of Parliament for Manhyia North, Hon Akwasi Konadu and members of the planning committee for pulling off an excellent celebration.
