Forgive me – Anum chief apologises to Mahama; says Bawumia deceived him into voting for NPP

The Krontihene of the Anum Traditional Area in the Eastern Region, Osahene Owusu Ntow IV, has publicly apologised to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer John Mahama for his active opposition during the 2020 general elections.

Osahene Owusu Ntow IV acknowledged being one of the outspoken traditional leaders who openly rejected former President Mahama and his government after an Akwamu chief declared unwavering support for the NDC leader.

During a visit by Mahama as part of his nationwide tour to the Eastern region, Osahene Owusu Ntow expressed remorse, saying, “A certain Chief in Akwamu endorsed President Mahama, claiming that all the chiefs in Anum support him. I went on the radio to debunk the claim that we all support him.”

“I am that chief who did that, but Your Excellency, forgive me my sins,” he pleaded.

The Krontihene admitted that he supported the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the past due to Vice President Bawumia’s persuasive rhetoric.

However, he expressed disappointment, stating, “I didn’t know His Excellency Alhaji Dr Mahamudu Bawumia was more of a conman than me. He deceived us into voting for him.”

Highlighting the community’s pressing issues, Osahene Owusu Ntow mentioned deteriorating road networks in places like Gyakiti, Agyena, Akwamufie, and Anum-Boso.

He emphasised the need for essential infrastructure rather than superficial amenities.

The chief advised his subjects to prioritise competent leadership over political affiliations and urged them to reject governments that neglect development.

He emphasised a shift in perspective, stating, “We are now wide awake.

We could say in the past that we were born into NPP but now things have changed.”

Osahene Owusu Ntow concluded by challenging Mr Mahama and the Member of Parliament for Asuogyaman, Mr Ampem Nyarko, to address their concerns and earn their votes.

He conveyed, “Mr Mahama and Mr Ampem Nyarko, the ball is in your possession; we will only shout goal when you play it into the net.
