Listening to the Inspector General of Police, Dr George Akuffo Dampare as he respond to the many unsubstantiated positional allegations levelled against him, raised no doubt on my mind why he was appointed the Inspector General of Police, the level of maturity, intelligent, smartness, professionalism and unprecedented achievement accomplished within a space of two years since his appointment.
In the greater interest of the state’s security, peace and stability, it is imperative to state that, IGP even though must have his flaws as admitted before the committee. In fact, he has distinguished himself before the committee and Ghanaians as a chief servant and must be recommended for demonstrating a strong sense of commitment in building a peaceful Ghana.
No matter how this whole conflict is twisted into different shapes of disagreement in the context of some wield utterances made by COP George Alex Mensah against IGP that “he, IGP is the worst ever in his 31 years of being in the Police Service” an allegation which he is yet to give an evidential support to establish how this evidence threaten the core mandate of the Police institution in ensuring law, order, and safeguard life and property, and again how it threaten the security and peace of both the police community and the general public.
Where lies the point for one to say an IGP who had adopted all the necessary models to beef up security to ensure peace and order, considering what he has been able to achieve since becoming an IGP, irrespective of the absent of Key Performance Indicators ( KPI’s) to assess his performance. It must be put on record that, so long as security of the state is concern as defined “the state of being free from danger or threat” which simply mean the safety of one to move out from home for his or her daily activities and return home peacefully without any attack.
So on the basis of this definition how can one describe the IGP as the worst IGP ever, when under his leadership robbery cases had decreased, Police visibility has been tremendous through effective and efficient patrolling and monitoring in our communities and the highways, establishment of Police Emergency Medical Intervention Fund with 1.6 million as start up money to cater for any personnel who get injured in the line of his or her duty, even if it mean to send him or her to any part of the world for treatment, decentralization of the Intelligence units, welfare department, Council department and the establishment of Police election security secretary which has enable him to conduct two successful by – election.
