The flagbearer of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Mahama, says he will not govern with more than 60 ministers when elected as president of the country.
The former president noted that the ministers who will serve in his government will not be entitled to ex-gratia payments as spelt out in Article 71 of the constitution.
“I am committed to operating an effective government with not more than sixty (60) ministers,” Mahama said on Monday during his victory speech in Tamale.
“These ministers together with other appointees of the government will not be entitled to ex-gratia payments after their tenure, as they will commit to that undertaking even before the necessary constitutional amendments, including a review of the controversial Article 71,” he added.
Speaking at the University of Development Studies in Tamale , he asked Ghanaians to hold him to his promise.
Mr Mahama was elected last Saturday to be the flagbearer of the NDC.
He will lead the NDC to elections 2024 as he did in 2012, 2016 and 2020.
