*Manhyia North MP Urges Government to Prioritise Fighter Jets Over Presidential Aircraft in 2026 Budget Debate* ¹

Hon Akwasi Konadu, the MP for Manhyia North, took the floor during the 2026 budget debate to challenge the government’s spending priorities. He questioned the allocation of funds for VIP aircraft, arguing that if GH¢9 billion is to be spent on the Ghana Air Force, the first priority should be a fighter jet for the military rather than executive comfort .¹ He also pressed the administration to admit it was planning to buy two presidential jets and urged a focus on the nation’s strategic military needs instead.

Beyond the aircraft issue, Konadu echoed the broader parliamentary view that the budget should emphasize growth‑oriented spending, fiscal prudence, and investment in key sectors such as energy, roads, education and agriculture to generate jobs and reduce poverty . His remarks underscored a call for tighter expenditure controls while still supporting measures that could spur economic activity and create employment.
