Hon. Abubakar Sedik leads anti-galamsey operations at Awadua

The District Chief Executive (DCE) for the Ahafo Ano South West District Assembly, Mr. Abubakar Sedik on Thursday, July 17, 2024, led an anti-galamsey operation to clamp down on illegal mining activity going on at Awadua, a community close to Wioso.

The operation which was in collaboration with the Mankranso Police command and the national security, resulted in the arrest of two suspects and the seizure of two excavators. The one-day exercise forms part of President Mahama’s vision to combat illegal mining.

Speaking to the media after the operations, Mr. Abubakar Sedik emphasised that the operation was a result of information received by the Assembly from China Water, the company in charge of rural electrification in the area, that an illegal mining activity at Awadua is affecting one of their high-tension poles.

“The District will take action against anyone found engaging in any unlawful activity regardless of their position”, he said.

Mr. Abubakar Sedik called on the traditional leaders and all stakeholders to help fight against illegal mining in the District.
