The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, is making strides in promoting youth development through sports, particularly football. As part of AshantiFest 2026, he’s organizing community football matches and an inter-district under-17 tournament to identify and nurture talented young footballers, with the ultimate goal of filling Ghana’s national teams.
The Minister has urged Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) not to dissolve the teams formed for the tournament, emphasizing the importance of sustaining them to develop future football stars.
Four teams have qualified for the semi-finals: Afigya Kwabre South, Afigya Kwabre North, Kwabre East, and Atwima Nwabiagya North. District Chief Executives have praised the Minister’s initiative, acknowledging its potential to uncover and develop young talents.
