Agenda 111: Commissioned Trede Hospital still incomplete, GHS 100M needed for completion – Health Minister

Minister of Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has disclosed that the Trede Hospital, one of the facilities under the Agenda 111 initiative, remains unfinished and non-operational despite being commissioned two days before the 2024 general election.

According to the minister, the government needs to raise GHS 100 million to complete and operationalize the facility, located in the Atwima Kwawonma Municipality of the Ashanti Region.

We have come to inspect the Trede Agenda 111 hospital, and as you can see, the place is still under construction. I have been informed that the outstanding commitment is over GHS 100 million. So, completion is one issue, operationalization is another, and even paying for work already done is also a challenge,” Mintah Akandoh told the press.

On December 5, 2024, then-President Nana Akufo-Addo commissioned the Trede Hospital, presenting it as the first completed facility under Agenda 111, a flagship initiative aimed at constructing 111 district and specialized hospitals to enhance healthcare accessibility nationwide.

However, new revelations suggest that the facility remains incomplete and non-functional, raising concerns about the status of the entire project.

During a recent meeting with the Christian Council, President John Dramani Mahama confirmed that only one hospital under the Agenda 111 initiative has been fully completed. He further revealed that the government requires $1.7 billion to complete the remaining projects.

The delayed completion of these hospitals continues to be a major issue in Ghana’s healthcare sector, with stakeholders calling for urgent government action to ensure that the vision of Agenda 111 becomes a reality.
