Pressure begins to mount as supporters from the three Northern regions begins a massive unofficial campaign for the vice president H E Dr Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia to lead the NPP into the 2024 presidential election as the flagbearer.
In a one on one interview with the press at the 2021 annual delegates conference of the New Patriotic Party in Kumasi Baba Yara Heroes Park on Sunday 19th December, Mr Adam Abdul-Bashiru a member of the NPP North East regional communication team and regional youth organiser hopeful, appealed to party delegates not to compromise on choosing Dr Mahamudu Bawumia to take the 2024 flagbearership.
He explained that, base on the history of the party, the Dankwah and Busia have had their share of power and it is time for the Dombos to take charge since the NPP was built on this three foundation stones.
Aside these historic tribal comparison, Mr Abdul-Bashiru also expressed that Dr Bawumia has proven his competence and commitment for the NPP and deserves to be honoured.
” Bawumia has taken so much heat from the NDC”.
To back his claims, the communication team member hinted that choosing any other candidate apart from Dr Bawumia as the flagbearer will second to the perception and propaganda of the NDC that, the NPP is an Akan party which dislike Northerners and will never grant them the chance to lead.
Also, prior to the party’s internal electoral activities, he urged all party folks to be mindful of their utterances and maintain sanity in the party to work towards the common goal of the party in 2024.
