TCDA CEO Welcomes Thailand Delegation to Discuss Investment in Ghana’s Oil Palm Sector

The Chief Executive Officer of the Tree Crops Development Authority (TCDA), Dr. Andy Osei Okrah, had the privilege of welcoming a high-level delegation from Thailand.

The delegation was led by the Director-General of the Department of South Asian, Middle East and African Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand Mrs Urasa Mongkolnavin, together with H.E. Mr. Thirapath Mongkolnavin, Ambassador-Designate of Thailand to Ghana.

During the meeting, Dr. Osei Okrah formally introduced the mandate and strategic objectives of the TCDA, highlighting the Authority’s role in regulating and developing Ghana’s tree crops sector and facilitating investment opportunities across key value chains.

The discussions focused primarily on potential investment opportunities in Ghana’s oil palm industry. The Thai delegation expressed interest in supporting the establishment of a 12,000-hectare oil palm plantation in Ghana, alongside the development of a processing mill to enhance production capacity, efficiency, and value addition within the sector.
Dr. Osei Okrah warmly welcomed the initiative, noting that it aligns with the Government of Ghana’s efforts to bridge the country’s significant palm oil production gap which stands at approximately 150,000 metric tonnes.

The meeting also explored opportunities for value addition across the oil palm value chain, technology transfer, and broader agricultural cooperation between Ghana and Thailand. Dr. Osei Okrah emphasized Ghana’s political stability, investor-friendly environment and commitment to agricultural transformation, which continue to position the country as an attractive destination for agribusiness investment in Africa.

The visit marks an important step towards fostering strategic partnerships that will support the sustainable growth and competitiveness of Ghana’s oil palm sector while creating employment opportunities and enhancing rural economic development.
