GFZA Ashanti Region Celebrates NPA’s 20th Anniversary, Highlights Partnership for Safe Fuel Supply in Ghana

The Ashanti Regional office of the Ghana Free Zones Authority (GFZA) turned a routine workday into a celebration, joining the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) Ashanti Region in Kumasi to toast the oil regulator’s 20th anniversary. The two agencies share the same building, so the event felt like a true “sister‑agency” reunion, complete with a plaque of felicitation from the GFZA lauding the NPA’s “relentless work in keeping Ghana’s fuel supply safe and reliable across the country” .¹

GFZA representatives highlighted the NPA’s two‑decade track record of efficiency, transparency and consumer protection in the downstream petroleum sector, while also reminding everyone that the GFZA itself is marking its 30th anniversary. Since its inception in 1995, the GFZA has generated over $35 billion in export revenue and created more than 40,000 jobs .² “We are proud to stand shoulder‑to‑shoulder with the NPA as we both look to the future of Ghana’s energy and industrial landscape,” a GFZA spokesperson said, echoing the #JoinTheGFZA hashtag that trended during the gathering.

The joint celebration underscored the collaborative spirit that defines Ashanti Region’s public‑sector institutions. By sharing the same Kumasi office, the two bodies signaled a shared commitment to supporting Ghana’s economic growth—from fuel security to expanding free‑zone investments. As the NPA looks ahead to the next decade with plans for a new regulatory act and a push toward alternative fuels ,³ the GFZA is gearing up to transform export‑processing zones into modern special economic zones, a move that could reshape the region’s industrial map.

Would you like to hear more about the NPA’s upcoming reforms and how they might affect fuel prices, or dive into the GFZA’s vision for turning export‑processing zones into special economic zones?
