A/R: Interior Minister warns police against converting foreigners into citizens

The Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mubarak, has issued a stern warning to police personnel against the practice of converting foreigners into citizens during arrests.

He cautioned that any officers found engaging in this misconduct would face disciplinary action.

Speaking during a meeting with the Ashanti Regional Police Command at their headquarters today, the Minister expressed his displeasure over reports indicating that some officers had been changing the names of arrested foreigners to Ghanaian names.

He described the practice as unacceptable and a violation of law enforcement protocols.

Mr. Mubarak emphasized that such actions undermine the integrity of the police service and vowed to ensure accountability for officers involved.

In addition to addressing this issue, the Minister also spoke about a well-known drug peddling hotspot known as “Tinker Island” in the Manhyia South Constituency in the region.

He urged the regional Police Command to intensify their efforts and conduct a raid on the area within the next six months.

The Minister called for decisive action against drug peddling and misconduct within the police service, highlighting his commitment to upholding the rule of law and maintaining public safety.
