*Kumawu Owam Breaks Ground for New 4‑Seat KVIP Toilet Facility, Boosting Community Sanitation*

In a modest ceremony that blended tradition with progress, community leaders and residents gathered on a bright morning to cut the sod for a new four‑seat KVIP (Kumasi Ventilated Improved Pit) toilet facility.

The project, funded through the district’s development budget, is the latest step in a series of sanitation initiatives aimed at improving public health and fostering community well‑being in the Kumawu area.

Speaking after the symbolic sod‑cutting, the, District Chief Executive of Sekyere Kumawu,Hon Kwasi Amankwaa (A.k.A Tommy Cee),emphasized the importance of the facility for the people of Kumawu Owam. “Sanitation is the foundation of a healthy society,” the official said. “By providing a safe, accessible KVIP toilet, we are not only addressing a basic need but also creating an environment where children can attend school, traders can work, and families can thrive without the burden of inadequate facilities.”

The new toilet block will feature four private stalls, hand‑washing stations, and a septic tank designed to meet national standards for on‑site sanitation. Construction is expected to be completed within three months, after which the facility will be handed over to the local council for operation and maintenance.

Community members expressed enthusiasm for the project. “For years we have relied on open defecation or makeshift latrines,” said Ama, a mother of three. “Having a clean, well‑maintained toilet close to our homes will make a huge difference, especially for our children.”

The event also highlighted the broader development agenda of the area, which includes road upgrades, school renovations, and water‑supply improvements. “We are committed to delivering tangible infrastructure that touches the lives of every resident,” the minister’s representative added. “This toilet is just one piece of a larger puzzle of progress for Sekyerekumawu and the surrounding villages.”

The ceremony concluded with a traditional libation, a brief tour of the site, and a pledge from local officials to ensure regular monitoring and maintenance of the facility once it is operational.

The community looks forward to the completion of the KVIP toilet as a symbol of collective effort toward a cleaner, healthier future. #sekyerekumawu #DevelopmentInProgress #SanitationForAll #communityfirst #NDC360 #ARCC
