Dr. Andy Osei Okrah, CEO of the Tree Crops Development Authority (TCDA), sat down with Mr. António Caramelo Raposo, General Manager of Usibras Ghana Limited, one of Ghana’s largest cashew processing companies. The meeting was crucial, as Usibras was considering relocating to Côte d’Ivoire due to operational challenges.

As they discussed the company’s struggles, Dr. Okrah listened intently. Mr. Raposo outlined the key issues, and Dr. Okrah nodded understandingly. He acknowledged TCDA’s previous visit to Usibras’ facility, which had provided valuable insights into their operations.

Dr. Okrah reassured Mr. Raposo that TCDA was committed to supporting the cashew industry. He highlighted the Tree Crops Diversification Project, aimed at supplying quality seedlings to farmers, which would directly benefit processors like Usibras. The initiative would increase cashew production, ensuring a steady supply for Usibras.

Mr. Raposo’s expression changed from concern to optimism. He appreciated Dr. Okrah’s willingness to listen and offer solutions. The meeting concluded on a positive note, with Usibras expressing satisfaction and TCDA reaffirming its commitment to creating an enabling environment for tree crops.

As they parted ways, Dr. Okrah felt hopeful that Usibras would reconsider its relocation plans. The collaboration between TCDA and Usibras could be a game-changer for Ghana’s cashew industry, boosting production and creating jobs. Dr. Okrah looked forward to continued partnership, knowing that together, they could achieve great things.
