The dark clouds gathered over Kumasi, threatening to unleash another deluge of rain that would flood the city’s streets and homes. But amidst the ominous weather, a glimmer of hope emerged. Alhaji Ibrahim Nasir, the Ashanti Regional NADMO Director, stood determined, leading a team to assess the city’s drainages.

Their mission was clear: to identify areas that needed improvement and prevent the devastating floods that had plagued Kumasi for years. With the government’s initiative and the World Bank’s support, NADMO had launched a comprehensive plan to tackle the perennial flooding issues.
The team worked tirelessly, inspecting the 17 major drains that crisscrossed the city. They noted areas where desilting was necessary and identified potential flood risks. The data collected would inform the design of a comprehensive flood mitigation project, one that would safeguard the city from recurring disasters.
As the rain began to fall, Alhaji Nasir and his team knew that their work was far from over. But they were undeterred, driven by their commitment to protecting the lives and livelihoods of Kumasi’s residents. With the government’s funding and the World Bank’s support, they were confident that their efforts would bear fruit.
The story of Kumasi’s battle against flooding was one of resilience and determination. With leaders like Alhaji Nasir at the helm, the city was poised to overcome its challenges and emerge stronger than ever. The rain may have been relentless, but the people of Kumasi were more so.
