The Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, has taken a significant step towards enhancing disaster risk reduction and management in the region by inaugurating the Regional Disaster Management Committee.

This committee is tasked with developing policies for disaster prevention, mitigation, and response, and its establishment aligns with Ghana’s disaster management framework under the National Disaster Management Organisation Act, 2016 (Act 927).

The committee’s objectives are multifaceted, focusing on developing regional disaster preparedness and response plans, coordinating with district and national bodies, conducting risk assessments, and identifying vulnerable communities. Dr. Amoakohene emphasized the importance of collaboration in addressing disaster risk reduction and management, highlighting the need for collective efforts to mitigate the impact of disasters in the region.

By establishing the Regional Disaster Management Committee, the Ashanti Regional Minister has demonstrated his commitment to enhancing disaster management in the region. The committee’s work will likely have a significant impact on reducing the risk and impact of disasters, promoting a safer and more resilient community for the people of Ashanti.
