Ahafo Ano South West DCE Poised To End Illegal Mining

The District Chief Executive of Ahafo Ano South West District in the Ashanti Region, Abubakar Sedik, has announced that the Assembly will implement measures to impede illegal mining activities in the area.

Speaking in a meeting with Chiefs and elders of Betiako community who paid him a visit in his office on Monday, July 28, 2025 to complain of how illegal mining has destroyed the only source of water in the community, he stated that the District security council (DISEC) will meet on Tuesday, July 29, 2025 to put pragmatic measures in place to battle the culprits of the illegal mining activities at Mpasaso Nõ2 and Mpasaso Nyamebekyere enclave.

Some of the community members of Betiako complained about the problems they are facing in the community as a result of the galamsey activities. In their narration, their only source of drinking water has been polluted by the activities of galamsey at the Mpasaso enclave they share a boundary with. They pleaded with the DCE to take action.

“I am on the grounds fighting illegal mining, which people are aware of. I inherited the illegal menace and I promise to fight it with the best of my ability “, he said.

Hon. Abubakar Sedik refuted claims that he has a hand in the happenings at Mpasaso Nó2. “They want to destroy my name because of politics “, he added.

The Odikro of Betiako, Foster Ayiem and Nana Akwasi Bio, kyeame to Manfomanhene thanked the DCE for the assurance to battle the illegal activity which is causing harm in their community.

Also in the meeting were Paul Amegboe, special assistant to the DCE, Emmanuel Smart Amo, Ag. District Information Officer, Abdulai Salifu, Assembly Member for Betiako electoral area and some members of the Betiako community.
