CABLE THIEF DIES AT ADOATO SUBSTATION IN GREATER KUMASI

A young man lost his life while attempting to steal a cable at the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) Substation in Adoato in the Kumasi Metropolis of the Ashanti Region.

The incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday, April 19, 2025, when he was electrocuted while trying to steal an earth wire.

The individual, believed to be in his late 30s, was shocked at the substation near the Metro Mass Transit Station.

This tragic event caused a power outage, affecting many customers within the city and beyond.

Unfortunately, incidents of vandalism targeting ECG transformers, cables, protective equipment, and other installations essential for reliable power supply have been on the rise in the region.

Recent acts have taken place at the Adoato Substation and the Adum Central Business District, among other locations.

The management of the ECG is urging the public, especially those engaged in such illegal activities, to refrain from them, as they jeopardize stable power supply in the region and can lead to fatal outcomes.

The ECG has, therefore, appealed to the public and all stakeholders to help protect its installations by reporting any suspicious activities to the nearest police station.

The company also urged the public to contact their Customer Service Center at *0302611611* or visit the nearest ECG office lodge a complaint through the ECG PowerApp, or reach out via their social media handles *@ECGghOfficial*.

The incident has been reported to the regional police command to assist in transporting the body of the deceased to the morgue.
