The African Electoral Institute (AEI) deems
the Electoral Commission’s decision to release the voter register to political parties without accompanying statistics as a serious omission and has the potential for the manipulation of the voters register.
This to the African Electoral Institute is a lack of enough transparency and can create a technical loophole that can be exploited and has the potential to undermine the integrity of the electoral process.
It’s crucial that the Electoral Commission addresses this issue promptly to maintain public trust and confidence in the democratic process.
The Electoral Commission of Ghana is responsible for ensuring transparency, fairness, and integrity in the country’s electoral process.
It is, therefore, the EC’S duty to provide vital holistic information on the voter registration, such as the breakdown of the statistics in the form of:
1. Missing voters list
2. Proxy list
3. Gender statistics
4. Absentee voter list
5. National voter statistics and
6. Regional and Constituency voter statistics.
It is crucial that the Electoral Commission addresses this issue promptly to ensure the trust and confidence of the electorate.
In conclusion, the African Electoral Institute is calling on Ghana’s Electoral Commission to prioritise transparency, accountability, and fairness to prevent any attempts to manipulate the outcome of the elections by stating the statistics that should accompany the 2024 voters register and re-submit same to the political parties on time.
