*Attack on Journalists and Protestors During Occupy Jubilee House Demonstration*

The *United Press for Development Network (UPDN)* strongly condemns the attack and assault on journalists and protestors during today’s Occupy Jubilee House demonstration organized by Democracy Hub Group.

Freedom of the press and the right to peaceful protest are fundamental pillars of democracy, and such incidents undermine these core principles.

Journalists play a crucial role in a democratic society by providing objective, accurate, and impartial information to the public. They should be able to carry out their duties without fear of violence or intimidation.

The attack on journalists covering the demonstration is a grave violation of their rights and an affront to the principles of a free press.

Furthermore, the right to peaceful protest is a fundamental democratic right that must be protected. Citizens have the right to express their grievances and concerns peacefully, and any use of force against peaceful protestors in the name of injunction is unacceptable and unjust.

UPDN calls upon the Interior Ministry, CHRAJ, and Ghana Police Service to conduct a thorough and transparent investigation into the incidents that occurred during the Occupy Jubilee House demonstration. Those responsible for the attack on journalists and protestors must be held accountable for their actions.

Additionally, UPDN urges all stakeholders, including the government, civil society organizations, and the media, to work together to ensure the safety and protection of journalists and the rights of protestors.

It is essential to create an environment where freedom of expression and peaceful assembly are respected and upheld.

The role of a free and independent press is vital in fostering transparency, accountability, and democracy. UPDN stands in solidarity with journalists and protestors in Ghana and reaffirms its commitment to defending press freedom and democratic values worldwide.

About UPDN:

The United Press for Development Network (UPDN) is a global organization committed to promoting sustainable development, democracy, and press freedom. We work to protect and advance the rights of journalists and support initiatives that strengthen democratic institutions and principles.
