The Speaker of Parliament Rt Hon Alban Kingsford Sumana Bagbin has said he will not allow the Electoral Commission ( EC) to lay any Constitutional Instrument ( C.I ) before the House unless the EC holds a pre-laying meeting with him ( the Speaker ) and leadership of Parliament .
The Speaker gave the warning in Parliament today after the Deputy Minority Whip Ahmed Ibrahim and the Minority Leader Haruna Iddrisu demanded explanation on why the EC and the NIA had not been programmed in the Business Statement of Parliament for Next Week , to brief members of the House on the CI and National Identification registration exercise respectively , ahead of the intended laying of the C.I before Parliament by the EC.
RT Hon Alban Bagbin said the independence of state institutions like the EC and the Judiciary cannot prevent Parliament from performing its functions.
The Minority Leader Haruna Iddrisu said the Minority caucus will not allow the EC to perform its duties in a manner that will disenfranchise citizens of the country .
