A/R: MATERNAL MORTALITY IS AN INJUSTICE TO WOMEN-DR TENKORANG.

The Ashanti Regional director of Ghana Health Services,Dr Emmanuel Tenkrong has describe maternal mortality as in justice to women.

According to him,no women should die from pregnancy and pregnancy related complication.

“Two people get pregnant and why should one person die out of that pregnancy”he asked.

He noted that,,the fact that a woman is pregnant and do not want the pregnancy, doesn’t mean that, that women should die from unsafe abortion.

Dr Emmanuel Tenkrong was addressing media during a press launch “ZERO TOLERANCE CAMPAIGN”on unsafe abortion.

The campaign is to raise awareness on the menace of unsafe abortion and generate society’s support in ending preventable maternal deaths.

“No woman must die from unsafe abortion. Prevent unplanned pregnancy. Seek professional counseling and management in the event of unplanned pregnancy and it’s complications”

In 2020,2128 cases of induced abortion,338 abortion related complications (haemorrhage, hollow organ perforations, and sepsis) and Nine deaths were recorded in the region.

In 2021,there was a marginal improvement in the situation with 1901 cases, and 281 complications being recorded. However,the deaths increased to 11.

Dr Emmanuel Tenkrong has therefore called on the general public,special woman to visit any healthcare center for counselings incase of any pregnancy complications.

He advised the youth specially not to undergo any unsafe abortion in the country because is a big risk and is killing so many people.
