Ing Dr Prince Owusu Ansah, the head of the Automotive and Agricultural Mechanization Engineering Department of Kumasi Technical University who double as the Vice Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Technology, has called for free tertiary education for agric students across the country.
At the official launch of the Commission for Technical and Vocational Education Training (CTVET) in Kumasi Technical University Adako Jachie Campus in the Ashanti region on Tuesday 12 April 2022, Dr Owusu Ansah expressed that, such a keen attention on Agricultural education will make agric programs looks more attractive and help improve the country’s Agric sector to boost the growth of the economy.
According to his claims, the agric as we say is the backbone of the Ghanaian economy lacks the modern Technological advancement and due to that many Ghanaian youth have no interest in engaging in it.
He also stressed on the Ghanaian perception about agricultural being the cheapest course and punishment for dump students who could not pass their high school exams, claiming that is a misconception which needs to be redefined.
However, he emphasised that Agric Mechanization Engineering is one of the most effort demanding and profitable program that requires determined minds and dedicated individuals to pursue.
As part of the launch programme, an altramodern Automotive and Mechanical engineering workshop, fully equipped with modern machines like, four wheel lifter, vehicle painter dryer, etc was commissioned and handed over to the school to improve the practical section of the Automotive and mechanical engineering department.
On this initiative, Dr Owusu Ansah commends the government for taking such a helpful step in dealing with the infrastructural deficit of the school and asked for more of such needful supports, “we have not seen anything like this for the past twenty years” he said.
