An Ashanti Region based Non-Governmental Organization known as the Grateful Heart, has donated life support items including wheel chairs, crutches and walking sticks to Persons Living With Disabilities (PWDs).
The event was held on Monday 3rd January 2022 at the premises of Kings College at Buokrom Estate in the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly. Over one hundred (100) beneficiaries each received an item according to their needs.
Founder of the organization, Mr Akwasi Kyei Danso, who in turn is the Director of Communication for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Ashanti Region advised families who have members with disabilities to provide them the necessary support since they can be productive if given the needed assistance.
Speaking in an interview, he disclosed the organization was formed a year ago and their basic aim is to put such persons together to proclaim President Akufo Addo’s government’s intervention for persons living with disability. He added that his group will ensure that such persons are given the needed suport to be productive enough so that they would not resort to begging on the streets for whuch reason they intend to provide them with employable items from next year.
Member of Parliament for Kawadaso Constituency, Dr Kingsley Nyarko urged PWDs to take advantage of government policies to improve their licpving conditions. According to him, there are a lot of policies rolled out by this government targeted at persons with disability and it would inure to their benefit if they would go for it.
On his part, the former Ghana Ambassador to China, His Excellency Edward Boateng and Patron of the Grategul Heart pledged his unflinching support for members. He pleaded with families to take good care of their members who have some disabilities saying they should not be taken as mermaids.
He promised to foot the bills of any PWD who wants to enroll at any TVET svhool in the country.
Beneficiaries expressed their profound gratitude to Mr Kwasi Kyei and his group for their kind gestures and prayed God to bless them accordingly.
